Velma Louise (Parker) Rutherford, 84, of Springfield, Massachusetts, departed this life on Sunday, October 30, 2022, at her home.
Born in Springfield, she was a daughter of Felix Parker and Estelle (Watson) Parker.
She was a graduate of The High School of Commerce and was a member of St. John’s Congregational Church.
Velma had been employed in various retail and healthcare settings in the Greater Springfield area, including Baystate Medical Center, from where she retired in her early 70’s.
Pre-deceased by her parents, her husband, Donald Rutherford, and a sister, Inez Green, she is survived by two daughters, Deanna Rutherford-Blowes (and husband, Donald) of Stratford, Connecticut and Dawna Rutherford of Springfield; five brothers, Llewellyn Parker, Alvin Parker, Norris Parker (and wife, Marie), and Harold Parker, all of Springfield and Charles Parker (and wife, Pamela) of California; and two sisters, Estelle Early of Springfield and Kathlyn Parker of Virginia; and a host of other relatives; and numerous friends.
The family would like to send their sincerest and heartfelt thanks to all of the healthcare providers, agencies, and in-home care workers who provided service, support, caring, and an abundance of love to Velma along her journey.
The calling hour is 10-11 a.m. Friday at Harrell Funeral Home, followed by funeral services at 11.
