William E. Oakes

William Edward Oakes, 84, of Littleton Street, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2020.  Born in Bluefield, West Virginia on September 22, 1935, the son of Rosetta L. Oakes and James Johnson he spent his formative years in Columbus, Ohio and moved to Springfield in 1957 where he continued his work as an auto mechanic.  William served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean War Era.  He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Marguerite Oakes, his sons William Oakes Jr., Gerald H. Oakes, Shakah Oakes and Douglas Johnson; a daughter Ernestine Johnson ; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and many friends.  He was laid to rest with his military brothers  at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
